Event organized and hosted by IDEAS Trainees, Niharika Sravan and Michael Zevin.

The first Machine Learning Meetup speaker of the academic year was Dr. Chris Greer, Senior Associate Data Scientist at KPMG. He was the ideal speaker for this inaugural Machine Learning Meetup organized by the IDEAS program, as Chris was previously an astrophysicist. He received his PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Chicago in 2012. In his two-part talk titled “Data Science Consulting at KPMG: A Physicist’s Perspective”, Chris discussed his experiences transitioning to the field from academic research and shared advice pertaining to industry job search as a PhD student. He also highlighted some interesting projects he is involved in at KPMG, including those in machine learning, natural language processing, and optimization.
