IDEAS is designed to prepare graduate students not only for careers in academia, but for the larger number of position in industry open to data scientists. IDEAS will help to prepare students to work in a collaborative, global scientific community by improving their leadership, communication, teamwork, mentoring, and management skills. To achieve these outcomes, a number of training, workshop, outreach, and collaborative opportunities are open to IDEAS trainees.
Some of these options are required for IDEAS trainees, while others are additional opportunities. Many are open to graduate students across Northwestern and beyond, providing more opportunities for collaboration and networking.
The graphic below summarizes the options and requirements for different levels of participation in IDEAS.
